Dealing With Wonderlust

I’ll assume that if you’re visiting this blog, you LOVE to travel. So it’s understandable if you may be feeling a little depressed about not traveling right now. The COVID-19 outbreak caught the world by surprise, not just you. There are many of us who had epic travel plans for 2020 just like you did. Instead of staring at your calendar and being reminded of all of the fun trips you were suppose to take, why not do something a little more uplifting for the spirit?

Below, I’ve listed 5 things that you can do to help satisfy your wonderlust and dig yourself out of the depression that you may be feeling as a result of not being able to travel.

1) Start a Pinterest vision board of places you’d like to visit once the travel bans have been lifted. Be as specific as possible! Make a different board for each location and fill it with photos of the landscape, food from specific restaurants & cafes that you want to eat at, museums, tours, shopping areas, special events, and local activities! Immerse yourself in that city and pin everything interesting that you can find. This will help you mentally feel like your’e in that city and get you excited for your future trip.

2) Video call with a few friends or family members who think you may want to go on a future vacation with. Brainstorm on a destination, accommodations, time of year, and ways to budget for your future trip.

3) Start planning for trips in 2021. Check your favorite vacation planning websites like Kayak and TripIt, and start planning out where and when you want to go on a trip in 2021. Start to get any idea of the cost so that you can start to budget now. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing anything yet since there is still a lot of uncertainty of when travel restrictions will be lifted and what the state of the economy and the state of certain travel companies will be.

4) Shop online for items that you’ll need for your future trips. Things such as: bikinis, sunglasses, mobile wifi units, travel bags, luggage, storage options, all weather shoes, sporting equipment, ect. There are tons of travel related items that you can catch on sale now for your future trips.

5) Order travel books, magazines, or subscribe to travel blogs. Now is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of some of the down time that you may have by reading. Reading about awesome places and seeing some inspiring photos might help to get you out of any “funk” that you may be feeling from staying at home.

If you have children, reading travel books with photos can help to entertain your children. Teach them about different cultures and about all of the things that can be learned in other regions of the world. I would also recommend checking out this interesting website http://Kidsinothercountries.org  on how children around the world live their lives.

I hope that these suggestions help to brighten your spirits during this difficult time. If any of these tips were helpful comment below with your favorite tip and don’t forget to subscribe so that you don’t miss future posts.
